Hi guys; been a long time since I've been on here and have to revive this thread....
AMS Alpha 14X (15X, 18X) Turbo Kits
I’m installing my Alpha 14X kit. Instructions mention you have to lightly grind the block on the passenger side to clear the turbine housing. The instructions show an older kit version with a much smaller turbine housing.
The amount of grinding on the block requires for the 1.01 AR housing for the G30-770s seems excessive. Knowing how these snails get so hot—what is the consequence of heat transfer to that part of the block and the grinding in the area of the dowel pins for longevity/reliability of the motor? There is absolutely no room for any type of heat shield or heat protection between the turbo and the motor. It makes me wonder if the turbo flange was not welded in the proper orientation during fabrication….
If anybody can post up some pictures of their installation I would appreciate it. Surprisingly I cannot find anything on the Internet.
I have reached out to AMS to ask for photos, but they don’t have any photos of this installation with the G series turbos. They also told me I have to remove the heat shield around the steering knuckle on the driver side. I would like to hear any comments or experiences on the consequences of that as well.
