Hey guys, I know some of you have seen this on social media but I figured I would post it here as well with slme more details.

We’ve finally decided to pull the trigger on an aero package for our NASA racing GT-R. This has been on the lost for quite awhile and after doing some suspension upgrades over the winter now we can finally support some aero on the car! The plan is start off with a moderate package creating roughly 1500-2000 lbs of downforce at around 150 mph. Our car has always struggled with oversteer so we’ll be looking for a bit more df on the rear at all speeds. As time goes by we’ll be adding more df along with more power. So, this is simply our first step to get some aero on the car, and create a good baseline package that can grow as we need it.

At the rear we’ve fabbed up a custom mounting structure inside the trunk that will support plenty of downforce and drag. After a LOT of research and consideration we decided on the APR GT1000 wing with the 3 element upgrade. The 3rd element can be removed for lower drag/df, which will suit higher speed tracks. At maximum attack this wing is capable of creating over 2000 lbs of df at 150 mph. So, it should be quite enough to keep up with the front as we develop more df over time.

Up front we’ll be fabricating a custom splitter to start with. Our NASA class rules have some very simple guidelines - the front splitter may not extend more than 12” past the front edge of the bodywork/bumper. Also, any aero parts may not extend beyond 6” wider than the factory bodywork. With these rules in mind, our front splitter will be exactly 10” in front of the lip, and extend 5” off each side of the front fenders. I’m not sure exactly how much df this splitter will create, so the plan is to use the adjustability of our rear wing to balance out the car as best we can. Over time, we will add dive planes and other bits onto the splitter to make it more effective. Whenever we add some df up front, we can add some attack angle on the rear wing and keep increasing the total df on the car.

Aero is very, very complicated and I don’t claim to know all about what we’re doing here - but you have to start somewhere and we have been losing ground to our competitors in the faster corners because they have aero and we don’t. This will definitely help us close the gap, or even get us on a level playing field with the fastest cars in Arizona.

And here are some pics!

It’s FRP, poor man’s carbon fiber. Hopefully it holds up well but if not then it’s no big loss. This one is kind of an experiment, maybe the next one will be carbon fiber. We’ll see!

Thanks for following! We’re excited as well, we need to pickup around 2 secs per lap at our local tracks to be competitive with the fastest guys in our AZ region. Hopefully this project gets us close!

I wanted to share a quick update of this week’s progress. The splitter is done and trimmed, just needs some sanding and paint. We added 3/4” aluminum rods to the factory crash beam, which should be enough support for the splitter - we shall find out! I also started on mounting the new trunk with aerocatch latches since the hinges won’t work with the wing installed.

The new wing should be here on Tuesday and I’m soooo excited!!

More updates! The wing pedestals are done for now, all that’s left is to cut the new trunk and install the front splitter. Hopefully we’ll be driving it around this weekend!

Hey guys, phase 1 is complete so I just wanted to share some updated pics! We will looking at aftermarket front bumpers/fenders later this year and then add some canards and more bits to the splitter once that stuff is installed.
