Guys,

I have really tough choice to make.

I have already made my decision and sent money to built engine to Doug but money was sent back by Doug's bank because of some wire transfer mistake. So some would say that is a sign...

In the meantime I got offer from Cicio to built 1300 whp racing engine. I don't know Cicio in person but found only good opinions about his company and service, so it looks like he is top GT-R specialist in USA. Doug is also reliable but some people advice that Cicio is the man to go with.

And now here is my alternative:

I used to be motorcycle racer for several years. I won some Championships in Poland and in Europe for YAMAHA ARAL Racing Team. My best racing partner from Yamaha later started racing for Porsche (won endurance races) last year has won Lamborghini Blancpain European Championship. He is also owner of best tranny service in Europe and has that special gift from God - superb mechanic skills, never met in my life anybody like him with such a great feeling of engines, suspensions, etc... His name is Teodor and he is willing to help me built the fastest GT-R in Poland. He has a friend who is great engine mechanic - builds racing engines for Porsche, BMW, Mercedes and other brands but never GT-R. Teodor is saying that he and his friend can built tranny and engine without any problem. Teodor is DODSON dealer. Tranny built by Teodor would cost me 11000$, same tranny from Sheptrans is 18000. He is assuring it will be as good as engine & tranny from USA or even better because they will do it for their friend as a kind of hobby & challenge.

I understand that Cicio and Sheptrans have years of R&D but is it worth 7000$ in case of tranny and about 7000$ in case of engine? That makes total 14000$ more expensive building engine and tranny in USA than by my friends.

I kindly ask about opinions experienced GT-R owners who are familiar with engines and tranny construction / issues / tricks. No offense to anybody but I'm wonder if GT-R engine and tranny construction is different than other moderns engine / tranny constructions in the world?

Please show me the light in tunnel because I'm stuck between USA and Poland :)

Good place to be stuck between My question is how HP are looking to run because 800-1000hp is one thing and over that is another I fit is under I’d gomy friend, but if nor man go with the proven because nobody likes to shell out that kind of cash and watch it melt after a couple1000 moles. Good luck

This engine and platform has a lot of nuances. Also I am a big fan of having your powertrain built by the same person/shop that is going to tune it. Have it built by a shop that has worked with this platform before.

hey Peter,

I'm more of a track guy too and not a drag guy...but my car is set up for 1700 on race fuel and 1000 hp pump gas for regular track duty.

on E85 I can run the 1300 at the track easily all day as long as I have the fuel.  We are going to see if we have enough cooling though to handle that HP for 30+ min sessions.

in regards to your questions:

1) about the trans:  I think anyone can build the trans, but Shep has some major experience where he has seen what fails and has added the components to fix those issues.  I think most people would build the trans with the gears and clutch and not have the other little components to keep it from breaking on you at the track.  Is it worth that price difference?  not sure...if your guys can do the research and know all the parts, he sounds like he has the skill....just need the experience.

2) I think T1r build some amazing engines and have some kick ass cars.  I do like Cicio though as they use to campaign OLOA and are use to build track cars, so I think he would be better at setting up the whole car for you. (I had issues with certain fuel pumps that were good for big power but had starvation on cornering etc, trans temps with upgraded oil cooler needing larger front fascia etc)

hope that helps!

With the trans and motor it’s not a just slap some parts in and it will work deal for the GTR. You will spend much more than $14k learning the lessons that the experienced GTR builders already have. I would stick to folks who know the platform best and have put in the R&D

stick to the proven big names. do not let people learn on your car. i made this mistake many years ago. there is alot of R&D undertaken to these engine and gearbox. So many people get their gearbox built locally here and i ended up just buying one from shep. Now which one you think has problems and which one doesnt?

You're not paying the extra $$$ for more expensive parts and labour, you're paying the extra money for that secret sauce and experience they hold close to their chest pockets.

Hello you can go to Importracing in Germany great Skills espacially for track day guys he can built engines and transmissions my engine still running after 5.000 km about 3k miles heavy abuse, I am not sure for poland but Import taxes should be insane. In Germany we have to play a lot of Import taxes. Shipping takes also long and costs also a lot.

greetings,

Robert

I saw your post on the other forum and you can have Doug use TSM parts just as well plus he'd travel to you and build/tune the car there. He know's what he's doing.

But I agree with everyone else going over 1000hp to make these decently reliable I would stick to people that have and continue to work on this platform be it TSM, T1R, AMS, Doug, Jotech, etc.

I've used Shep to build my stock trans to  a 1.5 and it was a fantastic experience, no doubts about going back when I need the trans strengthened again.

I'll be going to Doug eventually with my TSM build but that's a couple years down the road, currently at FBO E85 tuned by Doug.

There is no way that I can more highly recommend TSM and Sheptrans.  They are both fabulous.  Also Doug is great.

If these were my choices and I had the money?  TSM and Sheptrans all the way.
