My powertrain warranty's just about up and I'm experiencing a weird noise coming from the transmission area.  Dealership hasn't been able to reproduce it, but I have it on video.  They claim the bellhousing doesn't have any play.  Anyone know what it might be?

Video with the weird knock (sounds like a truck):

Video of what it sounds like when normal:

Bell housing would of been my first guess, but man that is odd.  Sorry i couldn't be of any help.

Ya, that's what I thought too.  But they claim there's no play.

They're saying that it needs a clutch and touch point relearn.  Odd thing is that I recently did that a few months back.  Could that be what's causing the noise?

thats a hell of a rattle for a clutch.

do you have an AP to do a relearn?

Ya, I'm going to do that tomorrow when I get the car back and see if that fixes it.  I am skeptical though.

What's also odd is that the knocking sound happens when I'm completely stopped (so gear/clutch should be disengaged), so I don't understand why gear relearn/touch points/clutch capacity would impact it.

I agree, to me it seems like the bell housing.  Have you had it replaced at any time?

Never had it replaced. It's a 2013. Although I'd also think that if it was the bell housing there would be play or the noise would be consistently reproducible. Dealer won't act on it right now and my warranty's about up. I'm going to get the car back and do a gear relearn etc tomorrow and try and make it happen again before the warranty is up.

You get that rattle when stopped while still in gear, or does it happen in neutral as well?

I've had that same rattle going on for past couple months. At times it seems to go away but sometimes it's quite loud. It makes the car sound like a piece of shit rust bucket when it's rattling away at a red light. Past few days it's been pretty quiet. Next time it's rattling loudly I'm going to try stopping by Ivey to see what they think it could be.

Ya. Same thing. It's hard to reproduce though since it's intermittent and seemingly random.

Just did a gear relearn yesterday. Seems to have quieted things down in general, but it happened again today (but a bit quieter).

Update: GTR Tech says it's coming from the transmission.  Put in a request to Nissan Canada to have part of the transmission assembly replaced on July 19th.  Car has never been modified engine/transmission wise, all service documented so I'm confident there won't be an issue.  However, it's been over a month now and they still have yet to respond.  Contacted GTR Hotline and they said the delay was because their system was having a problem getting all the documentation that was sent over, but now they have it (this was 4 days ago).  Still no word.

Anyone have any higher up contacts at Nissan Canada Corporate that they could put me in touch with to move this along?

I had a weird metal on metal noise happen 3 times in my gtr ownership akin to this noise, it wouldn't happen when stopped but when you started moving and letting the car sit it always went away. They were very random times.

Honestly I'd rather send it to a specialist like shep or something over nissan, the cost to have dealers replace these parts is almost as much as bullet proofing the transmission for future.

Ya, would agree if I wasn't still in warranty.

Noise goes away when in neutral. Think you know what it might be?

Nissan completely denied the transmission warranty and the techs I was working with backtracked on what they said and basically stopped responding to me.

My understanding this is normal clutch pack rattle, mine occasionally does the same thing - rattles while sitting at the light in gear, but stops if I shift to neutral. Moving TPs to negative (-2 for me) seemed to make it rattle less.
