what brand are the cams? I've seen this happen twice, once on an oem cam on removal and once on a set of kelfords that I think had a weak casting... (the lobes had little chips flaking off of them too)

looks like someone tried to fix a mistake they made instead of doing it the right way.

did this guy get a heavy discount on these? else I'd say that shop owes him some new cams

How does that happen? and im assuming the chunk of metal went inside the cam chamber?

In this case it didn't really go anywhere... the sprocket is held onto the end of the cam with a bolt and when removing the bolt the pin and chunk of cam just kinda fell out.
