Nice. What wheels you running now? Forgive me, I domt know bbs models.

Those are BBS CH-R's in matte black. I was using them for street duty for the last year or so, but I won't have too much use for them now. For track I have a set of 18" Forgestars...

I made some progress this week, resulting in my new Sparco Pro ADV drivers' seat getting mounted in the car tonight. I chose this seat because it has side-impact protection for your head, and the overall dimensions are very close to the Evo2 that we have been using for a couple of years. The install was a bitch, and I had to modify my seat base, sliders, and brackets in order to get this thing lower in the car. Headroom has always been a problem for me since I'm 6'6" - so I wanted to really get this thing as low as possible within reason. The end result was about a 2" gain in headroom.

Getting the seat installed was necessary before we can start on the cage. After all, we have to be able to pinpoint headroom and harness bar height, as well as the exact location and angle of the main hoop. The good news is that I should be able to start on the cage next week!

More details on the mods please! I'd love to have that head clearance.

I'll take some pics of the seat base by itself. Basically, I cut the rear legs off the Planted seat base and then welded them back on so that the base is way lower at the back. I also had to bend the front legs to accommodate the new angle. I was also able to mount this seat lower in the brackets by 1/2" or so versus the old seat. Removing the butt pad helps as well...

Here are some pics of the modified drivers' seat mount. You can see how the rear legs are lowered dramatically to get the seat base as low as possible.

I also finally got started on the cage today! Well, the pedastal mounts anyways... I also had a glass guy come out and remove the windshield as well as the rear glass. And we removed the doors, ugh it was a long day!

Waaaahoooooo! My new tubing bender and notcher arrived tonight! This thing is going to be a pleasure to work with. Rollcage starts for real this weekend, yessss!!!!!
It's a Rogue Fabrication model 600 with the air over hydraulic kit, and upgraded pressure roller that won't score the tubing as it's pulled through the machine.

Hah! That would be awesome but let me get my own car done first!
I've already agreed to fab up a bumper for my buddy's RZR. We'll see where it goes from there

The rollcage is officially under way! We made some excellent progress today finishing up the main pedastal mounts and then bending the main hoop. It's a very tight fit which will allow us to weld the hoop to the body in 4 places around the B pillars, which will increase chassis stiffness. We were able to make the hoop on the first try which was quite an accomplishment so such a comolex piece. Next weekend we should be able to get the A pillars fitted and then it will be downhill from there!

Wow that is damn good work man. Congrats!

Do you have a design you're following you can share or just winging it? ;-)

Thanks Dave! I have a local pro chassis builder helping me out, and I'm learning a lot. We are definitely winging it - there are no plans for an R35 cage that I could find.
That being said, I am taking notes on each piece we make, with exact measurements so that I can recreate the cage again if needed.

So, when you're ready Dave !!!!!

Definitely. Can't wait to see it completed. What are you doing for doors? Ladder bars or X brace?

It'll be an X brace but no spliced tubes. Each tube will be bent so they come together in the center and touch. I'll weld them together and then form a sheet of 14 or 16 ga and weld that to tie them together. Look back at page 1 where I posted a pic of the GT3 Nismo cage - I want it to look like that!
