Will it be 3500 with the full cage?

No I'm hoping for 3500 before the cage and around 3600 with the cage. I'm estimating the cage will weigh about 120-150 lbs, but can't be sure yet.

There are more places to save weight still, here's a short list:

AC compressor and condensor
Parking brake
Front and rear lexan to replace glass
Trunk
Brake rotors
Coilovers

Eventually I would love to get this thing down to 3300 and still be AWD. Not sure if that will be possible...

Going the expensive carbon route also? I speccd being able to lose like 266lb from stock with seats, brakes, ti exhaust and carbon body bits. Not cheap though.. :-(

Carbon rotors eventually maybe. There are many many cheaper ways to shed weight first. I'm just beginning the journey...

Wow nice build!

I'm curious, how reliable has the car been? About how many track days?

Running any oil coolers?

thanks

Thanks man!
Yes the car has been very reliable overall. The biggest issue I had was the fairly common synchro tooth problem in the earlier GR6's which required replacement. Luckily Nissan warrantied that for me. Since then I have probably done around 40 track days and the car has been very solid...

That would be cool! I've seen carbon doors, but not fiberglass. Do you know where to find them?
I'm not sure what my doors weigh now but they are pretty light. The shell is steel and the skin is Aluminum. I would bet they weigh under 20 lbs each right now

Great to hear this!

Any aftermarket trans or oil coolers?

Anything you did to help reliability or not really?

What kind of oil do you run in the motor and trans?

Thanks ;)

Yes, my current mods are listed in the first post. I have a trans cooler and also low temp thermostats for water and oil. I will probably need more cooling when I start racing wheel to wheel since the sessions are longer, we will see.

As for fluids, I'm using Amsoil in the trans and diffs, and usually just Mobil1 in the engine but I change it every other track day.

As for reliability I would say that keeping the power down near stock is the main thing. These cars will run 100k miles if you keep the boost down...

Not too sure exactly. My shop did it to their shop e92 m3. But at 20lbs, that's not bad all. I think fiberglass would probably come in slightly less than 10, but they definitely won't fit anything like oem.

In case anyone was wondering what a nearly complete GT-R interior looks like. That's an 18x8 trailer and it's stacked with 2-3 layers of parts!

A small update, last weekends progress was cut short due to snapping off one of the front caliper bolts while disassembling the brakes and installing new wheel studs. I'm also installing the SPL spherical bearings in the rear knuckles to enhance road feel and reduce suspension deflection. I hope to drive the car again after these changes, but before I start on the cage.

Update on the cage situation! I've decided to do it myself, however I will be hiring a very well respected local fabricator to come help me get started and give me some pointers about doing tube fabrication in a racecar. I'll be getting the needed tools over the next few weeks and should be starting the cage around Feb 1st. It will be a long and arduous job but it should be immensely satisfying when it's done.

Weekly update, after another grueling weekend at the shop the GT-R is all back together! Here's a list of the changes over the last 2 weekends!

- New ARP wheel studs since the stock studs will snap eventually running slicks
- New SPL spherical bearings in the rear knuckles because I got a great deal on them and they should help rear traction a bit, as well as last a lot longer than the rubber bushings
- New front passenger knuckle since the caliper bolts were cross threaded and destroyed the threads in my original knuckle
- New hardened caliper bolts
- Removed rear parking brake assemblies, still need to remove the handle and all the cables

Some pics!
