I think the enterprises needs to shift up closer under the dangerous and get rid of the red S

Thanks! I can definitely move them closer together. The red S is the signature of the Nismo logo, can’t get rid of that :)

You know how few people are going to get that, right?

I knew it when I saw it, but I thought...I wonder if other people are going to get it?

Nope.

General public, you are absolutely right! But that’s why I posted it here where at least 75% should get it. I think it’s a cool logo but didn’t want to be too cheesy by ripping off Nismo. If very few will actually recognize it, then it’s not cheesy at all - more like a secret handshake. I can’t wait to hear one of my buddies say “I see what you did there” haha!

Thanks guys! I think I’m pretty happy with the look of the car now. Time to leave it alone for awhile. Maybe in a cpl of years I will peel all this off and do a crazy wrap, but for now it’s good to go!

Hahaha! Yeah yeah yeah - eventually she will have 1000+ hp. But that costs money, and so do trackdays. So for now I will just drive it and try to get faster without changing the car :)

Just a quick update for the archives here. We have been trying a few different tire combinations this year and for our last race a in March 2018, we went to a full slick Pirelli DH tire. I was able to source them used from the Pirelli World Challenge, and they are the same tire that forty-two is always running at COTA just different sizes. Here is my data from the last few tire setups, and all of these tires were scrubs - it’s just not economical to spend big $ on fresh tires in an attempt to win a plastic trophy. Scrubs get the job done, and we are figuring out which ones work best!

Hoosier R7 staggered 315/30r18 front and 335/30r18 rear
Max lateral G of 1.25
Pretty quick for 4-5 minutes and then they overheat and fall off, or you can slow down and let them cool off, but then you lose positions so what’s the point?
Driving impressions - more grip than any other DOT legal tire I have tried, predictable at the limit but not as easy to catch a mistake as compared to a high/extreme performance summer tire.

Hoosier R7 staggered 295/40r18 front and 315/40r18 rear
Max lateral G of 1.13
Not as quick as the wider/shorter setup however they do take the heat better due to the increased air volume and the increased circumference. We were able to maintain consistent pace for an entire 30 minute race. Unfortunately it was a slow pace and we were not competitive during that race.
Driving impressions, these felt very similar to heat cycled R888’s, extremely easy to control at the limit, very big traction window, basically like a high/extreme summer tire

Pirelli DH Slick staggered 305/680r18 front and 315/680r18 rear
Max lateral G of 1.35
This tire has pace and consistency, it handled all the heat I could throw at it. Fair warning, I was probably not getting right to the limits of traction (only had one full session to find the limits)
Driving impressions, wow wow wow. Can’t go back to DOT tires after trying these! Grip for days and no falloff whatsoever. I turned about 25 laps all within 1 sec of each other, my most consistent race to date, and I was only about .5 sec off the pace of the leaders which is closer than I have ever been against the same competitors. My wife loved them too and was able to run fast and consistent laps as well. She was about .6 secs off my pace for average lap times during a 30 minute race.

The plan going forward is to try a 315 square Pirelli setup and then probably try some other brands later this year. Yokohama makes a staggered full slock setup, and Michelin makes a square setup that should work too. I will report back as we try more variations.

Oh and FWIW the suspension is completely stock CBA with H&R sways. That is why the G loads are not too impressive, I expect them to go up a bit when we get coilovers later this year.

Cheers,
Wes

Nice to hear, and cool to get the data!

I'm surprised semis and slicks put you in the same class?

Oh! I forgot to mention, had to drop 50hp in order to stay in the same class with full slicks. It sucks on the straights, but the cornering speed makes up for it!

Tell us what the used tires cost for each.......... I can see the 30 aspect would overheat sooner.....less air..... but for 5/7 lap COTA  sessions, I can see them working. Drop 50 HP , that does sound terrible.

Roughly $120-130 per tire for R7’s or Pirellis. And the shorter R7’s overheat in 2 laps at COTA. It’s a long lap...
PM me if you want contact info for the tire dealer...

Would the pirellis work on a 18x10 and 18x12 staggered wheel?

DSM yes they would. I’m running 18x11 and 18x12 and they are a bit stretched but fit just fine.
