Well this car continues to amaze me. I entered in the Fastest Street Car event last week and made 8 passes over the course of three days. Best ET last week was 8.77 on the slicks and 8.8X on radials. I was having some issues and trying to sort them out and it seemed the harder I tried to get the 1/8th mile to drop where I wanted it, the worse the issues got.
It seemed to come down to the trans starving for fluid. I called Eric over at AMS and ordered their new
ALPHA PERFORMANCE R35 GT-R GR6 FILTER PICKUP EXTENSION / RELOCATION KIT. David here at the shop (there are two David's here, I type he works on cars, haha) installed it yesterday.
Today there was a track rental, about 25 random cars showed up. First pass for the car was an 8.75 at 159.93 mph. Basically tied with my best. This was on the same tune for the trans and engine as the Georgia 1/2 mile a few weeks ago.
I looked at the logs and saw that the car was shifting perfectly on the 1-2 finally and now it was shifting way to low. I changed the trans program and went back up, PERFECT freaking shift, unreal how I've beat my head against the wall and it was a fluid issue for over a year. As a side note, my last trans I had did this same thing. Nick's car that has gone 9.04 on pump gas has the Promax build in it, it does the same thing. He ordered his pan today too!
So, to cut this shorter, I made 7 passes today, worst was 8.93, worst MPH was 159.83. I changed the trans tune once to get the 1st gear shift up to 8,000 where I wanted it. I changed the launch control boost once by adding just 2 psi to it. Other than that no tuning, the car is spot on. Peak boost was 33 psi, I'm running E82 from the IGA in Norwalk.
Now for the good slips. The third pass of the day was an 8.733 at 160.63 mph, 1.39 sixty foot time. This was a new best for the stock turbofolds. First person I text was Steve as I found it hilarious that he beat me a month ago by .01 and I just went .01 faster. I told him at this rate it's going to take the two of us 5 more years to hit 8.60's! it was good for a laugh. I'm glad it's him who is at the top of this stock turbofold list with me, he's a great competitor and enjoyable guy.
At 12:44 pm I ran 8.93 at 160. I spun with a 1.53 50' and came right back around to run again. At 12:47 pm I ran my best of the day, 8.722 @ 161.19. When you have the Buschur Racing BFIC you don't need any damn cool down time!
I sat around for awhile ran another 8.8. Adjusted tire pressure and at 1:46 I made my next pass, 8.76, the car hooked but I wasn't happy, hot lapped it again, 1:48 I made the next pass, 885 at 161.21 mph. Like I said.....this FMIC kit kicks absolute ass.
Some other side notes. The car has a full interior with our carbon fiber front seats, stock sized brakes with CCM's from WGP, a Buschur Racing ported upper/lower stock intake manifold, FIC2150's, BR twin in tank pumps, peak IDC's were under 80%. Xona Rotor Red turbos, BR 3.8, BR Stage 3 head, BR spec'd 264 cams, BR built trans with all Jacks Transmission parts inside and an AMS pan kit, BR SETT 3.5" exhaust-the exhaust was on and there are no dumps of any type, the exhaust all exits the rear through the exhaust, BR3.5" downpipes, BR 3.5" mid pipe, BR Pro Catch Can kit, which is still dry, BR FF kit......
I've got a Boost Logic Intake manifold bought and paid for. It's suppose to be here next week. I'm going to dyno test the intake and the new throttle bodies we built and then at some point return to the track if the dyno results look good. I've got some plans for over the winter and once the snow starts to fly plan to pull the engine out and change some things I've learned in search of more power. I have no intention of getting away from the stock turbofolds at any time.
