I'm taking the NISMO to the track at the end of the month, and I'm getting pretty excited. Wanted to share a bit of what I'm doing.

Car so far has a Mines Ti fully resonated mid pipe, SiR 1,000cc injectors, and EcuTek tune by Bill Guthrie himself. All on 91 octane.

Before I go to the track I'll be installing a Greddy GR6 cooler, and an AMS street intercooler (reliability/longevity mods).

Round three will include:

  • AMS down pipes
  • GR6 upgraded by Shep w/ two billet baskets, and new "OEM like" clutches
  • Upgraded fuel pumps (most likely Fore Innovations)
  • Flex fuel sensor/kit
  • New tune by Bill

Round three will be the end of the line for me on this car. Trying to keep it highly functional, street friendly, reliable, and reversible. I will post pics as we proceed.

Gonna have a set of AMS down pipes for sale shortly if you need them. Sounds like a solid plan to improve an already-awesome car.

We've got a private run group, so only 5-6 close friends on track. 4 GTRs (including mine), and two supercharged S2000s. I'll also be bringing my S2000 CR for fun.

I have a set off my last car, thank you for the offer. Appreciate the nice comments. I'm looking forward to it.

Any issues w/fitment on the GR6 cooler? I heard they hadn't been tested on any Nismos yet?

I don't believe any transmission cooler has been tested on a NISMO. If any modification is needed, it's most likely trimming of the duct. I'm hoping, and relatively confident it will fit as is.

We will know soon enough. I'll document it as we install.

I'd agree the the nismo is essentially the same as a regular gtr except for the parts that set it apart eg cf body panels, turbo's, suspension.

I'd hate to cut the cf even for the duct, but like a standard gtr its necessary and I see it as to adding value to an already awesome car.

great mods for this car!

Thank you.

I assure you I will not be trimming CF. I will modify the duct if necessary.

Got the car back today. AMS intercooler fit perfectly.

Greddy transmission cooler also fit great. We had to do some carbon fiber cutting for the duct... Scary, but my friends at the shop I work with did an awesome job (Church Automotive Testing Daniel & Ryan).

Drove the car HARD on the freeway home, hot day (about 85-90), and temps would normally have been 210-215. The entire car is running cooler as the cooling system is no longer having to cool the transmission. Greddy GR6 cooler divorces transmission cooling from the coolant.

Temps after HARD driving:

Great thread and Pics JB!

I can't wait to hear about the results at the track!

I've been thinking on going with a Trans. cooler and always wondered about the ducting also.

Can't all this cutting of the duct be avoided by going with a new front bumper?

I've been looking at the Overtake hood because after 1 track day I melted-bubbled the clearcoat on my Mines NACA ducts near the openings....HEAT!

It seems the Overtake front bumper might be a way around all this cutting and I could possibly run duct work to my rotors.

Fantastic, & am keen for feedback!

Also, you might want to put a screen/mesh across the cut out next time front fender is off.
