Apologies in advance for my ignorance and lack of mechanical understanding.

So...  I decided I wanted to measure rotor runout on my GT-R and picked up a tool similar to this, that basically holds a guage in place, and you turn the rotor on the hub and it measures any variation in the disc surface.  But...  the GT-R has AWD and so the front hub will not turn freely (right?)  is there any way to get the rotor to spin freely?  Or am going to have to pull the rotor off and either take it somewhere to get measured or mount it on something that can spin freely?

I think it will turn just not freely...there is a bit of resistance

You need to lift both front tires off the ground. Then they will both spin freely in opposite directions. The resistance you are feeling is the FWD clutch pack and you can power through it with a breaker bar but that's kind of silly to do. With the opposite wheel on the ground torque must go up through the front driveshaft.

If the car is on axle stands and is the worst case is you're spinning all 4 wheels?  Not sure how the whole GR6 thing works with 'neutral'?

Elf beat me to it. :)  Nice.

Also how could there be any rotor runout with floating discs? I'm interested to see if you find anything.

Let us know how many  thousandths of run out you get on your rotor rings, and at what radius you measured them. Check your hubs too without the rotors since we need to know that too.

Then anyone who has brake judder and thinks it's not pad deposits can compare their numbers to yours.
